An advocate for west Michigan working families through collective action, education and community partnerships.
Marge Robinson, RN, is the president of SEIU Healthcare Michigan.
MUSKEGON October 1, 2015– At SEIU Healthcare Michigan, we are undergoing very intense and difficult negotiations with Mercy Health Partners in Muskegon. Mercy Health Partners is one of the largest employers in Muskegon County and they have kept the hospital workers there without a contract for two years now.
The difficulty of these negotiations have been highly public, including a recent feature in on MLive about the potential for a strike vote.
Right now, we are appealing to the west Michigan labor community for help in our fight. This attack is not only on the workers at Mercy Hospital, but on working people as a whole. A victory at Mercy Hospital for labor will certainly set the tone for labor across West Michigan and help us build momentum for workers across the state.
It is more important now than ever that labor stands united together to show how strong working people are. We have faced brutal attacks from the legislature and business interests for decades, but when we fight together, we win.
We will be sure to keep you updated as things progress, but in the meantime we are asking our allies to call Mercy CEO Greg Loomis at 231-672-2000 to urge him to give the hospital workers at Mercy a fair and just contract.
If you could please contact our Muskegon office at 231-722-6303 to let them know you called to show support we would appreciate it. Also, we’d love it if you or your local could write a letter in solidarity with us, and send to our office at 2680 Vulcan, Norton Shores, MI 49444.
