An advocate for west Michigan working families through collective action, education and community partnerships.
MUSKEGON March 17, 2018– Ever thought more union members need to be on city council, or in the state legislature, or in Congress? Ever considered running for office yourself, but didn’t know how to get started?
The West Michigan Area Labor Council (Kent-Ionia Labor Council and Lakeshore Community Labor Council) is working with the national AFL-CIO to prepare union members, and union allies, to run for public office. The goal of the program is to recruit and develop labor candidates to run for, and serve in, public office, starting in the 2017 and 2018 elections.
On Saturday, April 1, we’ll be holding a one-day workshop to help individuals decide if a run for office is in their future, and will also give them the basics of what’s needed for a successful political campaign.
There is no cost for the workshop, and lunch will be provided. Registration is required, and can be done by emailing Steve Veldheer at Steve@KICLC.org.
